Lubricants 101

I often talk a lot about lubricants.  I always show them during my parties, and they're the most often asked about product in the ordering room.  I thought I'd share with you some info on lubrication in general and specifics on the ones that we offer.

Although lubricants have been around for years, women often don't realize just how great lubication can be for enhancing intercourse and other types of sexual activity.  Lubricants can be an essential part of maintaining sexual health by helping to prevent tearing, irritation, and discomfort during sexual activity.  Lubricants can also help to make sex more fun and enjoyable for both partners.  Often it's your partner applying the lubricant, which is a great way to increase arousal during foreplay.

Many women think that if they are not experiencing enough self-lubrication naturally, then they are not aroused or there is something wrong with them.  In reality, this couldn't be further from the truth!  Under perfect circumstances, your body naturally becomes lubricated when you are aroused.  However, external factors, such as stress, medication, diet, and even sleep patterns can affect a woman's ability to naturally lubricate, often not producing enough moisture to last the duration of intimate acts.  A small amount of lubrication applied to the penis, vagina, or bedroom toy will ease penetration and take the place of the natural lubrication that may be lacking, allowing the experience to be more enjoyable for both partners.  Lubricants can also help if you are practicing safer sex by using condoms; it can help to ensure that the condoms do not tear or break during sexual activity, ensuring they work the way they're supposed to.

While an abundance of lubricants are available in different colors, textures, and flavors, Pure Romance's line of lubricants come in two basic forms; everyday lubricants and playful lubricants.

Everyday Lubricants:

These everyday lubricants are safe to use, well, every day if you so desire.  These lubricants may actually improve a woman's vaginal and sexual health by preventing tearing, irritation, and discomfort, while replacing any moisture or lubrication she may be missing.  Everyday lubricants are safe for all women and are a must to keep next to the bed!

The majority of our everyday lubricants are water-based.  Water-based are available in both flavored and unflavored mixtures.  These lubricants do not stain, are safe to use with latex condoms and all other latex barrier birth control methods as well as all silicone bedroom accessories, and rarely cause irritation.  Because water-based lubricants are designed to absorb into the tissues, they can dry out during extended sex-play; however, they are quickly revived with a small amount of natural lubrication, water, or saliva.  Because of their versatility and effectiveness, water-based lubricants are the form of lubricant most recommended by sex therapists and experienced couples.  

Just Like Me:  Just Like Me is our lubricant that doesn't feel like lubricant.  Let me explain.  This lubricant absorbs into you vaginal tissues and helps your body create more of it's natural lubrication, so it doesn't feel like you're using any lube at all.  It is water-based, so is completely safe to use with all of our bedroom accessories, but is not recommended for water- or anal-play.  It currently comes in Original, Strawberry and Key Lime scents/flavors.

Sweet Seduction:  Sweet Seduction is what I like to call the birthday cake of lube.  It gets it's naturally sweet taste from glycerine, which is sugar-free, and, therefore, vagina friendly (sugar = yeast = bad news bears).  It is quite a bit slicker than Just Like Me, but not sticky or gloppy like some drugstore lubricants.  Sweet Seduction is water-based, so it also safe to use with all of our bedroom accessories.  It is not recommended for water-play, but can be used for anal-play.  It currently comes in Original and Vanilla scents/flavors.

Pure Silk:  Pure Silk is our toy-perfect lube.  It is water-based, which means it's safe for use with all bedroom accessories, but is designed to mimic the feel of silicone lube.  What this means is that it is thicker than Just Like Me or Sweet Seduction, but still water-based and -soluble (means it's easier to clean up than silicone lubes).  Pure Silk is perfect for use with all of our bedroom accessories, and is a great choice for anal-play.

Pure Pleasure:  Pure Pleasure is Pure Romance's one and only silicone lubricant.  Since it is silicone-based, it is not safe for all of our bedroom toys (silicone toys and silicone lubricant do not get along), but it is safe with all of our anal toys.  Pure Pleasure is the perfect choice if you are interested in either water- or anal-play.  And, remember, a little goes a very long way!

Playful Lubricants
Playful lubricants can be used in conjunction with everyday lubricants, but shouldn't take their place.  Playful lubricants don't help to improve the sexual or vaginal health of users in the way that everyday lubricants do.  That being said, playful lubes are great to use during foreplay (such as oral favors), small body massage, and mutual masturbation.  Pure Romance currently carries two different kinds of playful lubricants: warming and creamy.

Sensations Warming Lubricant:  Sensations warming lubricant is intended to be a great foreplay lubricant to heighten arousal and sensation.  Gently rub a dime-sized amount onto the skin; as you continue to massage, the lubricant will warm up.  If you gently blow (like you're fogging up glass) on the skin, the lubricant will heat up even more, giving your partner a pleasantly warm sensation.  While a warming lubricant may not be the best option for a full-body massage, Sensations is great for small area or genital massage.  Sensations is also great for oral favors, both ways.  Sensations contains oil so it is not safe to use with latex condoms or other latex forms of birth control.  It is compatible with polyurethane condoms though if you are practicing safer sex.  Sensations currently comes in Original, Hot Buttered Rum, Strawberries and Whipped Cream, Cosmopolitan, Watermelon, and Berry Vanilla flavors.

Whipped Creamy Lubricant:  Whipped creamy lubricant is intended to enhance love-making, as well as to create a comfortable experience for a woman and her partner.  The emollient texture can provide long-lasting lubrication and help to prevent discomfort during intercourse.  Whipped is a great lubricant to use with any of our toys that are intended to be used on a man's penis (c-rings and sleeves), aiding in the comfort of putting the toy on and taking it off.  Whipped is also great for full-body or small area/genital massage also.  Our formula is not compatible with latex condoms or barrier birth control, but is compatible with polyurethane condoms if you are practicing safer sex.  Whipped currently comes in Original, Strawberry Cheesecake, Vanilla Cupcake, and Cinnamon Dolce.

Why I do what I do

Let me tell you a little story.  Last winter my family was struggling financially.  I was staying at home with my daughter, and my husband was working full-time.  Sadly, part of his monthly paycheck was based on commission, so some months we really struggled.  In December, a friend of mine was hosting a Pure Romance party, and I decided that I needed a night out.  I was a little nervous about going, since I'd never been to a party like it before, and I had no idea what to expect.  Part of me was expecting a boring sex-ed lecture on how to use the products, and the other part of me was expecting vibrator sword fights.  Luckily, neither of these was correct.  The party was actually really fun.  People won prizes, everyone learned something new that they didn't know before that night, and most of all we all laughed.  A lot.  I'm actually surprised that in a room full of moms (we were in a moms' group together) not one of us peed our pants!  It was quite an accomplishment.  I talked to the consultant briefly about her job, and took home some flyers and handouts she had.

Then I waited.  And waited.  And stressed about  money.  And looked at the flyers.  And stressed some more.  And waited more.  Until finally in March I decided just to go for it.  I bought myself the Gold Kit (at a much higher price than they offer it most of the time, thank you very much) and started learning everything about the products Pure Romance carries.  I watched all the videos available online, and read all of the information sheets.  I crafted my demo (which is kind of like writing a stand-up comedy act now that I think about it), and booked my first party.

I won't lie, I was nervous as hell the night of that first party.  I've never been a super confident person, and I was freaking out a little bit.  But once I got going it just came naturally.  I've always been the girl who everyone asks sex advice from (let's not get into why ok?), so it wasn't weird at all for me to talk about sex in front of a room full of women.  They asked questions, and I knew the answers because Pure Romance provided me with such good resources.  It was kind of awesome.  Then it was time to order and I had some sort of out of body experience and totally floundered through everyone's orders.  It was kind of embarrassing.  But I got two more parties booked from that night and made a few hundred bucks to boot!  On the way home, I realized that this was by far the easiest money I had ever earned.  I was gone from the house for maybe four hours, and I made about $150.  That's better than any job I've ever had!

Now I usually just do a party or two a month, and make about $500 a month.  Yeah, I could do more, but I really like spending time with my family, so I choose to limit the number of parties I do a month.  If I actually wanted to, and I booked two parties a weekend I'd probably be making $1500 a month (before taxes, but we'll deal with that come April).  It's nice to know that I can make more if, say, our car breaks down, or I can spend more time with my family and just make enough to make ends meet.  I love the flexibility that this job provides.  I also love the fact that every night on my way home from a party I can honestly say that I helped most of those women go home to have the best sex of their lives, whether it's with a partner or alone. It's a pretty good feeling, I must say.

So much more than parties

I know that in-home parties are my bread and butter, so to speak, but I've got some other tricks up my sleeve.  If you're interested in the line, but aren't sure about hosting your own party yet try one of these ideas out.

1. Mini-Party:  I'll come to your location of choice and show you only the products you choose in a short demo and ordering session.  Great if you have a small group, or if you or some of your guests simply aren't interested in the toys we offer.  Hostess rewards will work differently; see me for information.
2. Couples Consultations:  I'll meet with you and your partner to discuss what you're both interested in, and I'll help you find some products to take your bedroom adventures to the next level.  We can discuss all together, or I can have individual consultations and come together with my suggestions.  This is great if you have a husband or boyfriend who can't come to parties, but wants to know more about the products and what might be right for him (or if your wife/girlfriend isn't comfortable coming to a party with you).
3. Private Consultations: If you're single, or if you're worried your partner won't be comfortable talking to me about the products, I can get together with just you to discuss the line and help you find the products that are right for you.  This is especially great for women who have some concerns they might not want to discuss in a party setting, or if you would like more one-on-one time for me to really understand what's going on and help you out.
4. Catalog Parties: If you don't have time/space for an in-home party I can give you catalogs and order forms to hand out to your friends.  They fill out their order forms and get them back to either you or me by the closing date.  Everything they order will count towards your party total sales and determine the amount you get in free product.  Hostess rewards work similarly to in-home parties; see me for details.
5. Online Party: Just like a catalog party, but you give your friends my consultant website and they order privately online.  You give me a list of everyone you invited, and any orders placed by them count towards your total party calse and determine the amount you get in free product.  Hostess rewards work similarly to in-home parties; see me for details
6. Training Parties: If you decide to become a Pure Romance consultant, I will help you arrange a debut party (which I will do with you, but you get the sales profits) and/or arrange for you to shadow one of my parties to help you get off to a great start!  Even if you're just considering becoming a consultant you can shadow me to get a feel for how it all works.
7. Destination Party: Planning a girl's weekend away?  I can come up for an evening to do a party for you in the location of your choice.  Depending on how far away it is I may need some reimbursement for travel expenses, but I love to travel so I'm pretty flexible with how far away I will go for free :)
8. Skype Demo:  I can give you a short demo of our products over the computer.  Perfect if you're too far away for me to come to you, but you still want to talk to someone in person about the products rather than just read them online.

So.....what exactly happens at a Pure Romance by Caitlin party?

I get a lot of women asking me this.  Their expectations range from a school-marm style sex-ed lecture to dildo sword fights.  My parties are nothing like either of these scenarios.  I take a little bit from each camp and create a party that fits your desires perfectly.

When you decide to host your very own party, here's the rundown on what will happen.  I will call you to set up a time and date that works for you, and will send you all of the information you'll need to make your party a success.  I'll be available at any time for any questions you may have or help with any part of the planning process.  I will work with you to determine some of the little details of your party, such as games we'll be playing, a theme if you are interested, food and drink ideas, and anything else that you can imagine.

On the day of the party, I will arrive 30-40 minutes early to set up my demo and get all of my stock inside so your guests can go home with the products they purchase.  We'll start with some introductions and a game, then we'll get into the demo portion of the party.  For the first half of the demo, I will show you and your guests a variety of our bath and beauty products, our lotions and lubes, and our other more "spicy" cream products (arousal creams, performance enhancements, etc.).  Many of these you'll get a chance to test out on your arms or hands to see how they feel in person.  We'll take a short break, then we'll play some more games before getting into the toy portion.  I'll show you a selection of each of our types of bedroom accessories (clitoral vibes, vaginal vibes, male sleeves, c-rings, g-spot vibes, and dual action vibes if you want specifics) and you and your guests will get a chance to take a close look at each demo toy.  We'll finish with another game an move on to the ordering portion of the party.  You and your guests will each meet with me privately to ask any questions you may have and place your order confidentially.  After everyone has placed their orders, I will pack up all of my supplies and you and your guests will head off to have the night of your lives!
